1.8m x18m ship launching airbags for 230 feet barge launched from deck of 300 feet barge in Indonesia
In September 2014, worked with PMG shipyard, the engineering team of Evergreen Maritime successfully launched one 230 feet barge on the deck of 300 feet barge with Evergreen Ship Launching Airbags . Marine Airbags’ launching technique nowadays was found to be versatile, both big and small sized shipyards, engineering projects. Rubber marine airbags can lift up heavy jacks and then move it forward which act as pneumatic rollers. Also airbags can roll over pits and knuckles, wherefore it requires less of the ground situations and ramps.Compared to rigid trolleys, marine balloons can be compressed at different ratio, accordingly in some projects like ship launching, the ship balloons can absorb the impact energy. It is well known that the main use of balloons is ship launching. And,vessels can be launched successfully from any dirt, beach, gravel ramp under the help of ship launching marine balloons, but have you ever seen a ship launched with ship airbags on the deck of another barge?
The barge to be launched measured 64 feet by width and 14 feet by depth with her
mother barge measured 300 feet by length, 90 feet by depth. Both of these two
barges are built by PMG Shipbuilding in NanTong. By airbag launching technology,
the mother barge launched into water first, and the 230 feet barge was then loaded
into the mother barge with one 1200 tons floating crane. Then two barges were
together towed to Indonesia. Its a big challenge to roll a vessel into water from
the deck of another floating barge, especially when the two barges have close
dimensions.Differ from jackets launching from launching barge, there are no
specially designed swinging arm and ballasting system equipped on barge.
During the launch, once 230’ barge floats at stern its bow will drop down and
may collide with the increasing bow of 300’ barge.
Realized this big challenge, under the spirit of pursuit of perfect, our engineering
team optimized the launching plans again and again with more and more
considerations. The launching plan should be designed to reduce the vessels’s
impact energy to be minimum. And, then the impact energy will be absorb safely
by the inserted ship launching airbags. On 3rd September, our engineering staff
arrived at Tarakan site.It took 4 days of work for the ballasting operation , and
another two days for the lifting up barge and remove keel blocks.
At 10th September, the final launch started. The holding wire ropes were cut off,
the 230’ feet barge moved with rolling marine airbags slowly, passed over the
mother barge’ bow and entered into the sea gently with people’s warm applause.
Conclusions of this barge launching project
The success of launching a vessel from another vessel’s deck means a lot: It can be referred for other deck launching projects, such as the jackets launching. It comes to be possible to launch vessels at a remoted area without assistant facilities, only Evergreen Ship Launching Airbags.
